Building Coeur du Village
The three founding groups of the Coeur du Village – La Fondation communautaire du Témiskaming, Le Club Lions d’Earlton & le Club de l’Âge d’Or – are acquiring the former village grocery store in April 2020. The project is underway!
Upon acquisition, discussions began to renovate the building into a modern community gathering place. Once the architectural plans were approved by the engineers and the municipality of Earlton, construction could begin in 2020.
Volunteers have pitched in throughout the project, from helping build the new center to helping with numerous fundraisers. For example:
- During the demolition of the old structures, all waste and materials were sorted and evaluated to determine if there was material to sell or recycle.
- More than 6,000 hours of volunteer time were donated, as well as several donations of labor and materials (electricity, plumbing, air conditioning, etc.) from local professionals. All of this generosity has made it possible to complete the construction of Coeur du Village in 2022, from first nail to finish.
- Among the fundraisers, volunteers organized a garage sale of equipment from the old grocery store, a lumber sale allowing Earlton residents to put their names inside the walls of the new building, BBQs, and several other community activities.
Coeur du Village offers the following facilities:
- Salle Desjardins, capacity of 50 people
- Salle Franc-À-Mi, capacity of 149 people
- Complete professional kitchen
- Bar for serving alcoholic beverages
- Handicraft store
- Weaving loom room
- Administration office for the Coeur du Village and its founding members
- 3 bathrooms (one of them is accessible to people with reduced mobility)
